Barris joins panel at Kingston Writers Fest
September 27, 2014 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
On Saturday, Sept. 27, Ted Barris will be featured at the Kingston Writers Fest in a three-way panel discussion entitled “From War to War.” Hosted by long-time editor and publishing executive, Jan Walter, the panel will bring together authors Frances Itani (Deafening, Tell), Leo Brent Robillard (Drift) and Ted Barris. “In this centenary year of WWI and the 75th of WWII,” the program indicates, “the writers discuss war and peace from the perspective of the individual.” Ted will draw experiences, in part, from his latest book – The Great Escape: A Canadian Story. Based on his original interviews, research and assembly of memoirs, letters, diaries and personal photos, in his book, Barris reveals that many of the escape’s key players were Canadians. His now National Bestselling book and his presentation come across like a Hollywood movie script, but they are in fact the true story!
Ted Barris is an author, journalist and broadcaster. As well as hosting appearances on CBC Radio and regular contributions to the National Post and Legion, Air Force and Zoomer magazine, he is a full-time professor of journalism and broadcasting at Centennial College in Toronto. He has authored 17 published, non-fiction books.
In 2011 he received the Canadian Minister of Veterans’ Affairs Commendation and in 2012 the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. On June 2, The Great Escape: A Canadian Story received the 2014 Libris Best Non-Fiction Book Award.
