The Great Escape (the original “Argo”)
April 2, 2014 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

It’s the story all of us think we know, but we really don’t. When anyone says the phrase “The Great Escape,” people think of a WWII German POW camp, Tunnels Tom Dick and Harry, Steve McQueen on his motorcycle, and American know-how. Right?
Wrong! This is another “Argo” phenomenon. The Great Escape is not an American story. It’s not even a British story… It’s actually a Canadian story! And this Wednesday, April 2, 2014, students, faculty and staff have a chance to see/hear the real story.
Story Arts Centre’s faculty member Ted Barris is author of The Great Escape: A Canadian Story, the bestselling non-fiction book that sets the record straight about the escape of 80 Commonwealth air officers from the WWII German POW camp on March 24, 1944.
Come to the Library at 11:30 a.m. to see/hear about Hollywood’s original “Argo”-like theft of a piece of Canadian wartime history.
